Disability and Supportive Accommodations

Sign Language Interpreter 

The library will provide a sign language interpreter for youth or adult programs. Call us at 847-392-0100 or at TTY 847-392-1119 a minimum of three business days (M-F) in advance.

Assistive Devices and Technology

Assistive devices and technology available for our customers to use in the library:

  • Motorized scooters (ages 16 & up) and rollator walkers are on the main floor at the Dunton Street entrance and the lower level underground parking entrance.
  • Assistive listening is available in the library's Hendrickson Room through a hearing loop that supports hearing aids with a T-coil mode. 
  • Optelec table-top magnifier is available in the fiction area.  Assistance available at the Info Desk.
  • Magnifying glasses and sheets are available at the Info Desk.
  • Personal amplifiers are available at the Info Desk.
  • Zoom Text is available on one public computer at the Tech Learning Center. 
  • NVDA screen reader is available on all public computers and laptops in the Tech Learning Center.

Request Library Delivery Services

The library building remains closed to the public. All offsite book drops are closed. Updates about library services are posted at as they are available. For the safety of our customers, we will not be offering home delivery services at this time. We will respond to requests for service when the home delivery services resume.

For Arlington Heights cardholders, we can deliver books, music, movies and more for as long as you are unable to visit the library due to a temporary or permanent condition. You may select which items you want, or our staff will select items based on your preferences. We will deliver library items to your residence on a monthly schedule.

Illinois State Library Talking Book and Braille Service

Talking Books

Illinois State Library Talking Book and Braille Service is a free program available to qualified individuals who are unable to read due to a visual or physical impairment. A digital player and accessible materials (digital audio and braille books and magazines) are mailed to your home. 

Senior & Accessible Services staff can work with you to determine your eligibility and complete your Talking Books application. Once your application is accepted, we are available to assist you with setup and book requests.
